There are varying opinions on the subject, and the decision, while personal, should be given proper consideration.

No.

This author believes that tattoos in general are ugly and disfiguring and make you look cheap.

You may also be limiting your chances for success in life as few people in the well-educated or professional classes of people do this sort of thing. It is sort of putting a sign on your body saying "I am not a well-bred person" and "I do impulsive things that scar me."

Of course if it is small or hidden in most or all circumstances, such social disgrace is less likely to be revealed.

On the other hand, a bar code in particular is an admission that you are nothing but worthless meat ready to be exploited by humanity, a symbolic admission that you agree you are nothing but a number, with no value greater than a rotting pumpkin.

Even worse, it is a voluntary applying a sign of enslavement and murder as was put on prisoners in the Nazi death camps, and other marks of brutality in past history. Even if it is not a social disgrace, it is unattractive and unless you are a rock star or the like, it shows bad taste and a misunderstanding of self-presentation, unless your aim is to remain a gas station clerk. Free individual expression is great but unlike clothes, hair dye or even pierced noses, tattoos don't change easily.

Other than that, it would be ''cool and cute,'' and make you prince/princess of the particular social set you are hoping to devolve (that's down) toward. (If you insist, why not just get a discreet butterfly or other similar iconic mark on your upper buttock and call it a day? I would not think less of you for that!)

Probably not. But it's your body.

People still judge others based on their appearance, but there is movement toward more widespread acceptance of tattoos in general. The opinion that it is a "social disgrace" is now an extremely narrow one, given the long history of tattoos in society. Individuals have the right to many forms of self-expression, even when they are not particularly endorsed by society as a whole.
