Oil pumps usually whine when they are going out BUT!! Eventually yes. The problem is the oil pump is litteraly the heart of the motor, as does a heart the oil pump circulates pressure and oil through the intire engine and without that your basically running an engine with no oil / with just a pool in the pan and not going anywhere. Your other compenents need oil to keep lubricated or you will fry the engine.
A good way to tell if your oil pump is going out is your timing chain tentioner will stop working as the piston is driven by oil pressure its self. This will cause a loud horrible rattling noise from the timing chain area. This is about the only sign you will get to be able to save it in time. The next signs are knocks and more engine damage and by that time it is probably too late and will cost loads to fix.
Chaz
WELLChaz, i agree on some parts of your oil press issue is the heart of the engine, but in my 19 yrs working on the internal combustion engine never one did i hear a oil pump make any noise.maybe because there submerged in oil ?....just kiding.Yes they are in the oil pan.But no they NEVER run off of an external belt, or any of the sort. There is a index that runs from the cam,to the oil pump...So basically if you have ignition, you have oil pump, that doesn't meen you should not check oil press level. It normally decreases with mileage lot of mileage. for all of you who do not know this pump per say is prob the strongest part in your engine...Why, because it IS the heart of your engine. Manufactures know best... Ive heard alot of engine knocks be as simple as carbon build up on the valves or maybe you spun a rod...either way a KNOCK is not good.
A bad knock sensor would illuminate the check engine light and allow the engine to ping (spark knock). The engine doesn't shift, the transmission shifts.
No, it will not cause the engine to knock.
A loud knock is usually associated with a rod bearing. The rod connects the crankshaft to the piston. If a rod bearing went out, possibly from an oil pump going bad, it would stall out the motor.
NO it will not. If you have a knocking sound then you have trouble inside of the engine.
Yes it can hurt your engine to drive with a bad knock sensor. The knock sensor should be replaced as soon as possible.
NO, but it will cause bad engine performance
The knock sensor just advances and retards the engine timing only. If there is a noise in the engine then you have engine are valve train problems. The knock sensor will not make the engine knock.
no
A water pump should have nothing to do with the bearing in your engine. If you are hearing a knocking from the engine then you are going to need to replace/rebuild. I have seen bad waterpumps make knocking nosies but you said it was new. Id check your work!
If a knock sensor was bad, the check engine light would be illuminated and the code(s) set would indicate so.
YES it can, but the engine would vibrate and shake if it did.
could be a bad pump mabey the relay went bad
