Delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS) causes pains in the muscles between 24 and 48 hours after training. Which is why your legs hurt after Rugby training. DOMS occurs as during training, every working muscle sustains slight tissue damage caused by excessive forces acting upon them. To prevent the onset of DOMS, a thorough warm-up and cool-down are required.
