Muslims celebrate Eid ul fitar as they do the fasting for the whole month of ramdhan and on the next day they also give fitra. It is the firm believe of every Muslim that if they do fasting in the holy month of ramdhan and offer prayer properly than Allah forgive all their sin before going for the prayer of eid ul fitar ( on the next day ).

At the end of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a joyous one day feast or celebration (could be extended to three-day celebration) called Eid ul-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking).

Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal; the 10th month that follows Ramadan month in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give in charity (called Zakat ul Fitr) to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and God rewards.

Before the day of Eid, during the last few days of Ramadan, each Muslim family gives a determined amount as a donation to the poor. This donation is of money or actual food -- rice, barley, dates, rice, etc. -- to ensure that the needy people can have a holiday meal and participate in the celebration and to confirm society solidarity. This donation is known as zakat ul-fitr (charity of fast-breaking).

On the day of Eid, Muslims gather early in the morning in outdoor locations or mosques to perform the Eid prayer. This consists of a sermon followed by a short congregational prayer.

After the Eid prayer, Some Muslims go to the cemeteries to pray for their relatives. Muslims usually go to visit various family and friends, give gifts (especially to children), and make phone calls to distant relatives to give well-wishes for the holiday. These activities traditionally continue for three days. In most Muslim countries, the entire 3-day period is an official government/school holiday.

Muslims celebrate Eid ul Fitr by giving thanks to Almighty Allah for the blessings of Almighty Allah (or God in English and same God worshiped in Judaism and Christianity) during Ramadan. Those who can afford put on new and colorful clothes and send pudding to their relatives. Children are given some presents as money called "Eidia" to spend on buying toys. Grown ups go to Eidgah to offer prayer. It is also a day of forgiveness.

In Western non Islamic countries, Eid-ul-fitr is celebrated differently throughout all families and places. First the person is supposed to go to the Eid prayer. After that depending at the mosque you go to some of them provide food like doughnuts or cookies along with juice. Some people after wards go to an amusement park while others may go visit family and friends. Some people go shopping and others may go to restaurants. As I said before every person has their own plan of spending the first day.

Answer 1

Celebrating eid ul fitr is a way of expressing being happy after the completion of one of the five pillars of Islam i.e. fasting in the month of Ramadan as celebrating of eid al-adha which comes after the completion of pilgrimage ; so the two eids are for thanking Allah (God) for these blessings.

Answer 2

It is celebrated for three reasons, from my point of understanding:

  • thanking God for guiding us and supporting us in completing fasting the month of Ramadan.
  • gathering in the mosque or open area early in morning to pray and to ask God forgiveness and to congratulate each other.
  • the celebration should be proceeded by paying charity to the poor, called "Zakat ul Fitr"

Additional Details

  • Eid ul-Fitr or Id-ul-Fitr , often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "to break fast"; and so the holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. It is celebrated after the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan, on the first day of Shawwal. Eid ul-Fitr is a day long celebration and is sometimes also known as the "Smaller Eid" as compared to the Eid ul-Adha that lasts four days and is called the "Greater Eid" Muslims are commanded by the Qur'an to complete their fast on the last day of Ramadan and then recite the Takbir all throughout the period of Eid
  • Eid Ul-Fitr is a celebratory feast that marks the end of the fasting period of the Islamic month of Ramadan and ushers in the month of Shawwaal. For Muslims, Eid Ul-Fitr not only signals the breaking of the fast, but also signifies the attainment of communication with the divine spirit and religious virtue, characterized by sacrifice, self-discipline and acts of charity
  • Eid -ul-Fitr is one of the important festivals of Muslims. After Ramadan, the month of fasting Muslims celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr.Eid-ul-fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, which Muslims follow. The sighting of the new crescent moon marks the beginning of the month.

Eid-Ul-Fitr Meaning

In Arabic the meaning of Eid is Festivity and Fitr means to break in English.Eid-Ul-Fitr means to celebrate the breaking of the month of fasting

Eid-Ul-Fitr Day

On the Eid day early in the morning all the Muslims take a bath and wear their new clothes which they have got stitched beforehand.after dressing they have breakfast which includes dates and then proceed to the Mosque (masjid) for a Eid prayer ceremony and recite the takbeerat "allahu akbar, allahu akbar" meaning Allah is the greatest. Apart from this many other Eid prayers are recited to remember Allah on this occasion.(Ramadan).

There are basically 2 Eids

Eid ul fitr & eid ul azha

Eid ul azha is for ending of holy month ramadan.

What people do basically after eid ul fitr namaz they eat sweets (thats sunna)eating sweet after namaz of eid

and they give money to their sons, teenagers money in hapiness..childeren are happy on that day becauseoz of money.

As far as eid ul azha is concerned it is celebrated as a sacrifice of prophet ibrahim(pbuh) presenting of his son.

At this eid the sunnat is to eat sweet before namaz of eid..

Then people sacrifice goat, sheep, camel, cow and only 2-3 more kind of animal on that day. The average poor basically sacrifice small child of goat etc and sometime not due to money but

At this Eid the money is not much given to teenagers some give and some don't money is basically a tradition by people not by quran its just for hapiness.
