Yes, it is perfectly okay. I wouldn't be on this earth if it weren't for relationships like that, because it was the same case with my great-grandparents. If you live in America, it doesn't matter, and if you don't you can always try and move to America if you feel this deeply about her. Everyone has their beliefs, and it's perfectly fine.
