There are two practical ways to get a Romanian citizenship, both called "citizenship by request". The only difference is that if you marry a Romanian citizen, the term provided in condition 1 is reduced to 5 years.

So you would need to:

1 - at the date of making the request, have lived in Romania for 8 years or more. Any period of more than 6 in a year months outside Romania means that year is not counted;

2 - prove loyalty towards the Romanian state and have no criminal record against the state;

3 - are major (over 18 years old);

4 - have the means to legally support yourself and your livelihood (including any relevant minors and other relatives);

5 - have a decent behaviour and not have a criminal record for crimes that would make you unfit of becoming a Romanian citizen, even if they were committed outside the country;

6 - speak Romanian and have sufficient knowledge of the Romanian customs and culture to be able to integrate in Romanian society;

7 - know the Romanian Constitution and the national anthem.
