You are unable to delete an excel file that you have copied to a CD - how can you delete it from the CD?

A CD is a read only device, so you cannot delete anything from them. Some CDs can be wiped completely and then re-used, but you cannot delete individual files on a CD. CDs are designed to work that way, not for using and manipulating individual files.

Open the file, immediately save it to somewhere on your hard disk. Then make the changes and save them to hard disk. When you're done, copy the file to a CD-RW.
