Sounds like a problem with Windows XP. What you should have tried to do is take the original hard drive, put in the xp install disk, to the install, choose to format the hard drive, and then continue with the XP install.
BTW: XP > Vista. Linux > XP. You should install Linux, instead of XP.
Windows XP switches off the computer's monitor Windows XP switches off the computer's hard drive
no!
When you computer is put into standby the computer is switched to a low power state... The memory within the computer is that holds the controlled windows state is volatile, which means that only anything is stored in RAM when there is a current passing through. So when the computer is in standby the RAM is active, the CPU is active and so is the hard drive... All of these devices are powered down dramatically.
on a Microsoft Windows computer, you will find a setting in the Power settings (in control panel). most of the time, it is a timer in minutes. set the number to 00. this will stop the timer.
Standby
Putting your computer in standby mode suspends all process on your computer, so no.
Push the power button.
There are several reasons why a computer may seemingly turn on "by itself": * There may be an automatic wakeup time set in the BIOS. * The BIOS may be set to turn the computer on automatically if it detects a power outage (even a minor power fluctuation can set this off) * You may have sent Windows XP into standby mode. In this mode, the computer powers almost everything down, maintaining only enough power to keep the contents of RAM present. When you bump the mouse or keyboard, it will bring the computer out of standby mode.
Check to make sure that you have more than the minimum RAM required on your computer to use Windows XP. Answer: Check hardware compatibility. if ok. then reformat your drive and then install.
Restarting means the computer will power down, turn off, and start up again. Standby means it saves your current windows you have opened to its hard drive and turns off. Then when you turn it on again it starts up faster and all your progress is saved.
because computers need to be worked on
Stand-by on a computer is like a button to put it to sleep like an iPod.
