the real question should be where did the oil go what went in must have gone out check for leaks
depends on the motor size but it should be somewhere around 5
According to the 1996 Mercury Cougar Owner Guide : With engine oil filter change : The 3.8 liter V6 engine takes ( 5.3 US. quarts , 5W-30 PREFERRED ) * the engine oil level dipstick is used to determine the exact fill requirement
Maximum Capacity: 4.8 quarts Minimum Capacity: 3.7 quarts (lower end of the dipstick) Maximum Capacity: 4.8 quarts Minimum Capacity: 3.7 quarts (lower end of the dipstick)
The dipstick tube is where you add the transmission fluid. If you are putting it in the same tube, it has to be going into the pan. If you are adding it somewhere else well, there is your answer.
The Owner Guide for the 1999 Mercury Cougar shows ( 5.8 quarts with filter change ) for the 2.5 liter V6 engine
It requires about six quarts. I suggest putting in 5 and a half and checking the oil level on the dip stick. Then from there add a little at a time, until you get it just below the full level indicated on the oil dipstick.
a 95 mercuy cougar takes anywhere from 5 to 7 quarts of transmission fluid
The 98 cavalier holds 4.25 quarts. of oil approximately. The missing dipstick can cause oil to blow out of the dipstick tube while driving.
4 quarts. always make sure to "read" the oil dipstick.
check your owners manual?
The engine will take 5 quarts safely. $4.5 quarts will take you to the fill line on the dipstick.
Start with 4.5 and check the dipstick.
