Confessing to a crime has nothing to do with your plea of guilty, no contest, or not guilty. In the United States, you must still stand before a judge and make a plea. If you have a felony, you must discuss your situation with an attorney or wave your right to such a discussion. In fact you should have asked this question to an attorney instead of to me. Regardless, you will need to go before a judge where the charges are read and some explanation is given. You will be given the opportunity at some point to speak and answer the charges. How this will be done will vary.

Is going through pre-trail intervention mean you are still convicted of your crime prior to completion of the program?

The question is worded clumsily. If you are offered pre-trial intervention and fail to complete it, or re-offend while on it, then yes, you will be formally charged with the offense and the lenient provisions of pre-trial intervention 'go away.'

If you plead not guilty to a crime of which you are charged does that mean you have to go to trial?

Not necessarily. The Prosecution could offer a plea-bargain in which case a more lenient sentence will be given for a lesser guilty plea. Barring that, the Bill of Rights gives every American the right of either a Bench-Trial (where the Judge will preside as Judge/Jury) or a Jury-Trial. Unless the charges are dismissed during the Arraignment or Pre-Trial, yes, pleading not-guilty to a crime of which you are charged will result in some kind of trial proceeding.
