I ended up calling the local police, and two wonderful and brave policemen here in Hamilton Co. Tennessee removed, and then killed the snake after seeing his pointed head, a sign of poisonous. They bagged the dead snake and took it to the rangers station where they identified it as a copperhead. HELLO!! I am a single woman with a deathly fear of snakes...poisonous or not!!! To even think of having a snake IN MY HOUSE was more than I could bear. The policemen were wonderful.... and let me tell you what they told me. First, use mothballs in the garage or basement, as snakes cannot stand the strong odor.( I immediately went to Wal Mart that night abd bought 4 boxes of them and shook them out around the edges of my doors in the garage and all around the edges of my entire basement.) The next thing to do is to apply a wide line of lime around the edges of your yard, especially near the woods where the snakes are most likely to enter your yard. Apparantly, the lime burns their skin when they crawl over it, so it causes them to go in the other direction. I hope this helps you. I had looked at the label on that "Snake A-Way" product at Lowes, but it states that it does not deter cottonmouths, rattlesnakes or copperheads. Good luck! Lydia in Chattanooga
