if you are talking about a child, then you need to speak to social services and /or the police. If you are talking about an adult be supportive, encourage but don't try to force him to change his life. Allow him to set up a new life/home without her so that he feels secure about his future before leaving. As the person above stated, the quicker you get to the Police the better as this person you are referring to doesn't deserve to be the mother or father of a child if that's the way that child is being abused. You don't have to worry that the Authorities will mention your name usually these things are kept quiet, what you should be worried about is who-ever got burned especially if that person was a child and how many more times is that child going to get burned or worse, because you didn't pick up the phone and call the cops?
