I have 200,+ miles on the car. I change the plugs and wires yet it runs rough at idle and runs smooth at crusing speed. What can i do?
At 35mph it runs rough. Also when idling it will quit running, sometimes. Does that sound like I need new spark plugs? How many miles are new plugs & wires good for?
Check your plug gap and that you didn't crack a plug.
A Ford Explorer that runs rough may be experiencing a clogged fuel filter, dirty air filter, or worn spark plugs. A proper tune-up can solve most problems associated with an engine running rough.
Is this when in idle? Perhaps you need to replace your spark plugs, maybe if it is fuel injected, you may need to clean the fuel system.
Vacuum line leak especially if it runs rough at idle. Bad spark plugs or plug wires.
gas fliter and a air fliter would help.
Likely needs a tune up. Replace all spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap (if it has one) and air filter. If it still runs rough you will have to go to a mechanic.

Why does my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, with a 2.4L engine, run rough at idle but runs normally when placed in neutral? I changed the plugs and air filter, but the problem continues.
This sled was meant to run hard and fast you probably are fouling out your spark plugs.
