It depends on the punishment and the reason for the punishment, but it goes back to AR 600-8-19, there is a 6 month waiting period or time of service requirement between E-3 PFC and E-4 SPC. Now once you have completed all punishments and are not flagged and your 6 month time in service has been achieved and you still have not been promoted you might want to start asking your first line supervisor why you have not been promoted, either way it is automatic at 24 months in service.

No it doesn't. It changes to the date that you are re-promoted.
There are service limitations for each rank. You can not serve past 8 years if you have not been promoted to Corporal. If a Marine is a Pvt or PFC then they were probobly reduced in rank for disciplinary reasons and are getting out.

Usually about 14 months from the day you go to boot camp. You'll pick up Private First Class 6 months after you join, and then Lance Corporal 8 months after that. If you go into boot camp as a contract PFC, it will only take 9 months from the day you joined to pick up Lance.
