If you hit a snow bank, it's possible snow or an ice chunk might have damaged your exhaust system slightly, causing an exhaust leak.
Look at the exhaust system when the car is cold and running for the first five minutes or so. You are more likely to see any exhaust escaping from leaks and the tailpipe at that time.
A more likely cause, however, is that maybe something like a bracket, hose, or fan shroud came loose or got jammed against something that rotates.
Have someone check it out. It is likely not an expensive fix.
If you're concerned about an exhaust leak, roll up the windows, turn on the heater, start the car and leave it in park. Stand OUTSIDE the car and leave a household carbon monoxide meter on the front seat for a while and see if it reads anything. A battery powered CO meter is easiest to use for this.
IMPORTANT! If the CO meter is powered with an electric cord, feed the CO meter in the car window and THEN roll the window nearly closed. CAREFULLY close the car door. Be VERY CAREFUL not to pinch the cord in the door or window or you could be electrocuted if the cord gets cut or damaged.

It is a crunching noise not a creaking sound. This noise occurs when walking/stepping on lying snow/ice because your weight is causing the snow/ice to compact itself therefore making a sound. Also I do not know what you mean by 'old snow'. Hope this helped, :) :L
