The short answer is that if you come into the US on a visitor visa, get married, you will still have to go back to Australia and have her file for a spouse visa. If, instead, she applies for a fiance visa then you could come to the US (after you get the visa), get married, and stay - but you have to file further paperwork after you are married (must be within 90 days) for an adjustment of status. This will give you a 2 year green card. At the end of the two years, if your still married, you can apply for an unconditional green card (good for 10 years and is renewable).
