There are leds in the needles that no longer make contact. When the temperature changes they might lit up temorarilly.
I 'fixed' mine by putting 3 clusters of four leds in each long needle and 2 clusters of four in the short ones.
When you put four leds in serie you do't need a resistor.
The original leds are hard to remove. Since the weight of new leds is different, callibration with little weights is required.
Other solutions I saw:
-using fluorescent paint and adding a light in the background.
What does CSV Mean on the dashboard lights on an Lexus 300?
How do I Reset dashboard warning lights on 90 Lexus ES250
There are quite a number of dashboard lights on Lexus ES300. The common ones include handbrake light, check engine, temperature, check oil, battery light and so many others.
If you only need bulbs then your solution is easy, however if the needles themselves no longer illuminate, then there is no bulb to replace since the needles are the bulbs. Your local Lexus dealer will be happy to assist you in this matter, there is one catch...they will only sell you the entire instrument panel. The last quote I got was around $300.00.
On my Lexus I had an issue with the lights staying off when it was cold. This was the case for all of my dashboard lights. Then they would flicker back on. There are Caps on the board for the instrument panel that were blown. This was the case for my fuel cage that didn't work consistently work as well
go to www.lextech.org they have everything you need to replace
check all outside lights to insure they are not blown
Warning light symbols on the dashboard of a vehicle warn of problems to the driver. For example, the warning light symbol of an exclamation on a Lexus 350 dashboard means the tire pressure is low.

What about them?
Hi, I had the same problem with my es300. I found a company in Michigan that is able to replace the needles and get them to light up again. They had it back in a few days. They are called Dash Electronics & Speedometer the number is (248) 835 1332 found them on the web at: www.dashusa.com good luck!! I called dashusa.com and they said that it costs around $350 to fix the needles. They basically add on an LED light to the needles, they don't replace the needles.
