My 90 lesabre did the same thing. When it cut off after driving I sprayed water on the crank sensor and it started right back up. A buick mechanic told me to do this and this is how I found out the crank sensor was bad!
I can tell you what happened with my Buick. The crank sensor was bad. The engine would start when it was cold but not when the engine was hot. Warner athey The engine computer needs the crank sensor reading to start. Period. Why three periods? Question mark? If the crank sensor is bad that does not mean that it will not function at all. That means that it will not function properly. Even a broken watch will tell you time. It may even be the correct time.
It depends on if it won't "crank" or wont't "start" if it worn't crank make sure your battery terminals are clean and tight if it still won't crank check the wiring if it looks ok suspect the starter.if it won't start it could be a fuel pump fouled spark plugs faulty ignition module faulty crank sensor or out of time. hope this helps.
crank sensor, 55.00 part and many other tries first total repair approx 600 dollars.,
The distributor is the crank sensor. If the timing belt was changed and the check engine light came on, the shaft that drives the distributor could be out of time.
I am looking in to a problem like this and I think it may also be the Cam sensor. Just a Guess but this might be some thing that should be done at about the same time.
It keeps the camshaft in time with the valves
Assuming you mean crank position sensor, it tells the ignition control module the position of the crankshaft so the module can tell the correct coil to fire at the correct time.
The distributor is not "timed". It is synched to the crank sensor with a scan tool.
A crank sensor plate , is attached to the crank shaft . it has little notches in it , that tell the ecu what piston is top dead center, sending the spark and fuel to the correct piston at correct time assisted by the cam senor which tells the ecu what position the valve is in.
The B2600i does not use a crank angle sensor, it uses a hall effect sensor located inside the distributor to time the engine based off of the camshaft. See the attached link for additional information. K6 Mazdatruckin.com
A faulty crank sensor would cause none of the plugs and injectors to work. Without an input signal from the crank sensor the brain will not know how to time it's signals. Most are designed not to attempt to function without the sensors signal.
