Open a separate account in your name, preferably one that pays a high interest. In the event that you are asked to repay this money then you would have to do so as it would otherwise be theft. If you have no way of tracing the sender then you are not in a position to repay it are you? DON'T spend it. After one year has passed and you have had no such demand, there must be a generous admirer who prefers to remain anonymous. If however you are asked to pay it back you may have just earned a small amount of interest which, as they say, is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick (don't ask who 'they' are, bunch of nutters if you ask me)

In general the money is not reversed off the ledgers or from clients account until whomever handles compliance/fraud activities for your company instructs you to. There should be a written protocol on how this is done.
