Do not reply to web addresses or e-mails supplied by the letter (yet). This may be a con job. Try to confirm authenticity independently of the letter. This may be done by contacting the named companies via info from trusted source (phone book, 411, computer web search, etc.). Also, try taking the cheque to a financial institution and finding out what they think or know. If it seems like fraud, don't be afraid to contact law enforcement of some sort. If you are contacted and the person/company requests/requires you to send them money first in order to collect any winnings then it's pretty much guaranteed that it's a scam, report it to authorities please, so that other people can be protected from it.
