problem with power steering 1994 Pontiac grand am 2.3L
You may want to check this with your dealer, but not too recently the cav and sunfire had a recall on the power steering. Something about a bad gear and power failure when making left hand turns. They would either replace the faulty gear or the whole rack and pinion assembly. Either way have it checked out. A steering problem is not a nice problem. It may cause accidents or death.
Most commonly, this problem is due to a out-of-round tire or a tire that needs a rebalance.
Could be tie rod or steering gear problem.

what is the problem with my power steering on astra automatic
Sounds as if your steering was not on properly. Only two things can cause your tyres to face inwards, and those are: i) your default access specifier is confused - the signal that the electronics in the steering send are faulty ii) your battery voltage is insufficient to turn the wheels and keep them in check Seeing that your steering came off, i think its a problem with the steering - check the electronics
The most common cause for steering wheel to squeak is either steering column or fluid. The Power Steering fluid cap is clearly marked and is located under the hood. Check either the "hot" or "cold" marker depending on whether your engine was recently running. Add the fluid, if it is low. If fluid is not a problem you may want to check the steering column's internal hardware. You can see if the internal hardware is properly tightened and lubricated. Using a silicone spray to help lubricate the knuckles (attachment point for the rod and wheel) may solve the problem.
