If an item is returned to the seller because you do not want it, its wrong size, wrong colour etc AND there is nothing wrong with the quality of the product i.e in the case of a refrigerator its in full working order then the seller can re-sell the item as long as its fit for purpose, as described and of a mechanisable condition. Many people will return clothes to a shop because they have tried them on at home and not at the store and found to be wrong size - (This is not law its about good customer relations) The store will exchange the item for a different size and place the clothing item back on sale, as long as its not been worn, marked or damaged. Some items cannot be exchanged in many countries now such as computer software (unless its faulty and will not run) then the retailer swops one for one - Items of jewellery especially earrings as there is a health issue in that respect, cameras may not be exchanged in some areas as they have been used and can have unsuitable images still on them.
