You should give a turn signal when you are within 100 feet of an intersection. Apparently, local rules vary or the above is incorrect as it is 300 ft in my town/state.
The requirement may vary from state to state, but a general answer might be within 500 feet fo your turn.

In any state you should signal within 100ft of turning but, to be safe you should always signal. Because you never know whats going to happen.
