A lot of men don't realize why women do things such as not going out with guys for long periods of time, and they don' t think that anyone could be hurt that long, or whatever your reason was, they can't fathom it. I'd write him a nice letter, telling him that you were only trying to be honest with him that you didn't mean to scare him off, and couldn't the two of you get together and talk more on the subject if he wishes.
