You went to go get your 1996 camaro z28 smog and they said your obd2 is not responing what causes that?

Just had this problem with our 95 and it's obd1. Our rear defroster overheated and took out some of the electrics in the wiring harness under the dash. Auto elec fixed it and tada....now the computer at the smog station talks to it again.
