You can check for spark by removing the plug wire from the spark plug and holding it about 1/4 inch from ground. Have some one crank the engine or pull the starter rope and look for a spark to jump from the spark plug wire to ground. DO NOT hold the wire with your bare hands since you will get shocked. If you have spark there, remove the spark plug and insert it into the end of the spark plug wire and do the same procedure. If there is no spark, the plug is bad. If you have spark, the problem lies elsewhwere.
carb. adjustment, fuel filter or the engine is shot.
You could try cleaning the spark plug. That worked for us. Take the spark plug out with a wrench and use sandpaper to clean it.
Might be in your ignition : lose wire, bad switch : when it won't start check for spark .
4.5 mower will start and run for two seconds
Because its a pos I have a brand new one that won't start.
Remove spark plug and dry it. Should start.
When a lawn mower will not start by pulling the cord, it probably needs maintenance. Changing the spark plug often will fix the issue.
I am assuming that the mower doesn't start.... My first guess would be that you are not getting spark to ignite the gas in the engine. Check to see if you have spark at the spark plug.
Spray some ether in the carb. If it fires, it has spark, but not getting fuel. start there.
I have a 14.5 Briggs and Stratton engine on a Ranch King riding mower that will not start. After spraying starter fluid into the head, and air cleaner it fires for a second, but will not run. It is getting gas.....coil??? or something else?
I don't know, but I'm having the same problem too. I think it might either be that it's low on Oil, or it flooded the engine.
No spark, no gas, timing off [sheared keyway] remove plug attach wire lay on motor crank it, do you have spark? put a small amount of gas into spark plug hole, replace plug, doe,s it start? misfires ? replace keyway , under flywheel, Where I come from a push mower does not have an engine so it starts when you do.
