If you are talking about your serpentine belt (the belt on the side of your motor) then most likely what happened it the belt became old and frail and broke, which happens if you do not replace it when you are supposed to. The general rule of thumb for belts being replaced is if it has three cracks per inch. In NYS, it will not pass inspection this way because it is deemed unsafe and can break. If it breaks your car will not start because of the fact that the belt is connected to your alternator, water pump and a few other nice little pulleys. If a bolt fell on the ground, most likely it came from one of these parts which means that quite possibly one of your pulleys broke as well. being that I have an aveo myself and I am a mechanic, I would say if you don't know what your doing, don't try. This is something that is already going to be a pain because there is not alot of room and to make it worse you may now be mechanically inclined... not a good idea... call a mechanic, call a tow truck.
A Chevy Aveo can not be flat towed. It needs to be dolly towed, front tires off the ground, rear tires on the ground. Consult your local Chevy dealer for more info.
