Generally, cat food contains more protein and fat than dog food, which is why dogs will readily eat cat food, as it just tastes better. It isn't exactly harmful in the short term, but cat food will not provide a puppy with the correct nutrients it needs. If need be, consult your veterinarian to find out what kind of nutrients your puppy needs, then read nutrition facts labels of food for your puppy. Always be sure to choose a dog food that is high in named meat (chicken, beef, lamb etc.) and low in grains, cereals and corn (dogs do not need high levels of these as they do not provide them with any nutrition).
