Your Chevy 350 timing is set at 10 deg no vac vac connected it goes to 40 and pings like crazy set it less than 10 it idles really rough whats going on?

Within a (assuming) HEI distributor there are weights that have nylon bushings; when these wear out they stick causing weird drivability problems. Pull the cap/rotor off and check this out; they are very easy to replace; get at NAPA. Also check the internal springs and shaft wobble while you are in there. I am assuming this is a pre-computer car with an HEI setup.
