The sensor (or the computer) is shot. Must be replaced to fix it.
change the transmission not the motor
Had same problem with 1998 ford contour gl. Replaced transmission range sensor and problem stopped.
The transmission computer has detected a malfunction. You need to have it checked for codes.
depends is it automatic or manual? if its automatic its more than likely that your transmission isn't shifting into first gear
according to the owners manual this could be related to a problem with the ABS. I have the same problem and am looking for a diy solution. also from the owners manual the ABS controls the transmission , and my transmission is shifting roughly, which is what I noticed before I noticed that the speedometer wasn't working.
Mercury is a dead planet because its tectonic plates have stopped shifting
You can put it in 4 wheel high without stopping. To go to 4 low, you have to stop and put the transmission in neutral before shifting the transfercase to 4 low.
most likey a transmission problem which can be caused by excessive towing and shifting ears while not completely stopped hope that helps
