there is a sensor on the back of the battery sleeve that wraps around the battery. it takes the temp of the battery to check for low or over charging.

To test use a voltmeter and if the reading is below 13 on a new battery and is fluctuating then it should be the volatge regulator Try changing the belt i just had the same thing happen to my 03 rs i change both belts and then everything turned out fine after that
