When it doubt, you should take your dog to a veterinarian. Treatment for a cut is relatively cheap (sick visit, some supplies, maybe some sedation) if it is shallow. If the cut is deep, your dog may need surgery, which you cannot do at home, and if you dog's cut needs surgery, waiting will only make it worse.

What to do with dogs that has nail ripped out?

You may want to take her to the vet to have it examined. The danger is infection. The vet may need to cut the nail back further into the quick to speed healing and to help make sure the nail will grow back normally. Some vets prefer to anesthetize the dog for the procedure, other more "old school" vets will cut it while the dog is awake. It's very painful but over quickly and will actually minimize the dog's discomfort because they don't have an exposed quick after the cut.

Should you cut a dog's hair in the winter?

A dog's hair and fur protect it from cold in the winter, and from the hot sun and warm weather in the summer. This works OK for a dog, since they do not sweat like humans to lose heat. A dog's coat should be neatly trimmed for appearance, but not cut very much shorter. Heavy brushing in the Spring and in Fall is good to clean out dead or dying hair.
