This is a tough situation for you and your friend. But your friend needs to deal with the loss of his/her best friend and there really isn't much that you can do or say to make things better. It is what it is. You just need to be there for your friend. Comfort your friend. Let him/her know that you are there for them. Offer to go see a movie with them, bring them dinner one night. Try to help your friend not sit at home and dwell on their loss.
