Yesy - if the sealant got into the mechanism of the thermostat Yesy - if the sealant got into the mechanism of the thermostat Yesy - if the sealant got into the mechanism of the thermostat
Your thermostat is possibly not opening up. Replace and flush and then recheck. Good luck.
Low coolant? Cooling fan not working? Water pump not circulating coolant? Radiator plugged or restricted? Thermostat not opening? Coolong system air bound?
It sounds like you may need to replace your thermostat. Even though you have enough coolant in the radiator and overflow reservoir the coolant may not be circulating through the system because the thermostat is not opening. When the coolant can't flow through the engine and radiator it will get very hot and stay very hot. This is usually an inexpensive and fairly easy fix, just purchase a new thermostat and install it or have a mechanic do it for you.
Could be the thermostat not opening
the temp gauge will run ot then cool that is when the thermostat is opening again
The thermostat is not opening up enough,
The raditator fan temperature sensor has a lower set point than what the thermostat is opening at, if this is something new then suspect thermostat is opening late.
Insufficient amount of coolant or thermostat not opening
The top radiator hose is above the thermostat. If the top radiator hose is hot, the thermostat is opening. The thermostat is not the problem. Perhaps the radiator is clogged up or the water pump is bad. Look elsewhere.
According to the Gates Thermostat book, it's 92 degrees. Matt.
if you take the thermostat out of houseing and the opening temp should be on it , around 88 degrees opening
To change the thermostat-- * drain the cooling system down to thermostat level (or lower) * remove the two (2) thermostat housing bolts, and the housing itself * remove old thermostat, discard gasket and clean both gasket sealing surfaces (pay attention to the orientation of the thermostat when you took it out; it only works one way) * install the new thermostat * place new gasket onto water box surface, over the thermostat, and center the thermostat in the opening of the intake manifold * apply gasket sealant, if necessary * place the housing over the gasket and thermostat, and torque bolts down to 250 in. lbs. * refill cooling system to compensate for lost coolant
