Check fuses
you can install a relay or rewire to a switched FUSED 12v source such as your parking lights they will come on when ever the parking lights are on i did the 2nd option worked great probe the wires to the back of the parking lights find the one that only carries current when switch is on
There should be a wire for your day time running lights that goes into the parking brake valve behind the dash, just disconnect the correct wire and they are disconnected. It worked for me on a 07 classic xl.
One question I'd have is whether or not your tail lights are working. I had the lights on my dash go out (the shifter lights still worked though) and my tail lights and parking lights were also out. After much investigation, it ended up being that the turn signal switch had gone bad. In order to replace it, you need to remove the cover around the steering column - we couldn't get the lower part of the cover off and subsequently also had to pull the steering wheel, then remove the turn signal switch (which also controls the headlights, parking lights, tail lights, etc), pop in a new one, and enjoy a life of dash lights and tail lights once again.
The first backup lights on cars were introduced in the year 1956. These lights were designed to improve visibility when a vehicle is reversing, helping to prevent accidents and increase safety. The addition of backup lights became a standard feature on most vehicles following their initial introduction.
In 1951 Jimmy worked part time as an usher and parking lot attendant at CBS radio studios in Hollywood.

I had the same trouble. Found it to be a short in the front parking light bulbs. I had to take it to a GM dealer and pay over $100 just to find out it was as simple as that. It worked for me. Good luck.
I have a 1999 B3000 that had an after market tow harness added so the truck would have rear lights only when towed. There was a toggle switch installed under the dash near the gas pedal that I would hit with my foot and turn off all the rear lights. Head lights still worked fine.
Please see the link.
Of course, otherwise there would be no lights that worked.
