Known as the Bayou City, Houston is a thriving city that is home to some of the world’s leading companies in healthcare, energy and finance. The largest city in Texas, Houston is becoming known not just for its industries but also for its high standard of living, lively social scene and many unique neighborhoods.

For culture vultures and arts hounds the Museum District is a great place to visit with many of the city’s finest cultural institutes being located here. Just a few minutes apart are the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Health Museum. For the younger generation there is also the Children’s Museum of Houston within the area which has state of the art exhibits such as Kidtropolis, a mini metropolitan city just for kids.

Downtown amongst the soaring skyscrapers is the Theater District where nationally acclaimed shows are regularly performed. Take in a musical at the Theatre Under The Stars, an operatic performance at the Houston Grand Opera or a concert by the Houston Symphony.

Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the city’s many parks which offer peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in Houston. Take a stroll through the Houston Arboretum at Memorial Park, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, or take to the water at Hermann Park’s boating lake where you and the family can rent paddle boats. For something a little wilder visit the Houston Zoo located within Hermann Park, a fun place for all the family where you can see everything from lions to sea lions and even dragons.

If you crave a day away from the city take a drive to nearby Lake Houston or Brazos State Park, both places of quiet solitude and natural beauty. Take a canoe out onto the lake for a peaceful days paddling or observe the alligators of the state park as they sun themselves on the muddy banks of creeks and bayous.
