Heart infections may cause patients to feel unusually tired, have a consistent cough, skin rashes or fever. Lastly, heart disease caused by problems with the valves can result in chest pain, swelling of the limbs, fainting and abnormal heart beat.

Different types of heart disease can be caused by many factors. Most commonly, heart disease is caused by smoking, Diabetes, high blood pressure, prescription medications, drug or alcohol abuse, viruses, bacteria, other diseases or genetics.

Heart disease can strike anyone, but certain risk factors increase the likelihood of being diagnosed. The elderly are more likely to develop heart disease and men are at a greater risk than women.
