Syrian hamsters are good to keep for older and more responsible children. Parents should also be mindful that Syrian hamsters may nip or bite if they do not wish to be bothered.

As they are relatives they can live together in the same cage for up to 5 weeks. At this age the puppies can get pregnant so must live separately to avoid this. At 5 weeks old they must be split. If you want to keep more than one hamster its best to keep another breed as Syrian hamsters are the only breed that must live alone.
