Debuted in 2011, Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu is the ninja-themed series from LEGO. Scheduled to conclude in 2014, this building series has expanded to include a spinning battle game, Video Games and apps, as well as a television series. The Backstory Set in the world of Ninjago, the series features heroes and villains, dragons, rustic villages and modern cities. Spinjitsu is the name of the fighting style practiced by the heroes. The fighters spin to draw upon the elemental strengths, allowing them to become tornadoes. Each ninja has a unique elemental talent and a dragon ally. The world of Ninjago was created by the first Master of Spinjitsu using four powerful Golden Weapons. The immense power they contained made them impossible to handle. When the master died, his two sons were sworn to protect the weapons. However, one of the sons was consumed by evil and wanted to possess the power for himself. The brothers battled, and while the evil brother, Garmadon, was banished to the underworld, peace would not last for long. The other brother, Sensei Wu, hid away the weapons, giving each a guardian dragon. Lord Garmadon, trapped in the underworld, made a deal with the leader of the skeleton army to recover the weapons for him. Sensei Wu recruits four young ninja to train in the ways of Spinjitsu and stop Lord Garmadon's quest for power. The series has since expanded to include new challenges and villains. Beyond Building In addition to standard building and character sets, the Ninjago line features the spinning battle game, Spinjitsu. Each player selects a minifigure character, weapons, and ability cards. The characters, based upon those in the Ninjago story, are placed on spinners and spun at each other like tops. The goal is to knock the other player's character down. The Ninjago theme was developed into a Nintendo DS game in 2011. Since then, multiple games have been released online or as mobile apps. A television series following the adventures of the ninjas has aired for two seasons and a third season is planned. It was also announced in 2013 that a feature-length movie was being developed.
