This also includes all data transfer to or from a cable customer who has an interactive cable system. Manufacturers, suppliers, as well as separate consumers come under the purview of this act. If a person is found guilty of theft of service, then the concerned cable company can file a civil and criminal case against him. If these violations were proved to be "just for fun" or for "free" cable relay, the penalty might be less, but if they were for transmission for financial gain, then the civil penalty could go up to $50,000. If criminal intent can be proved, this attracts a fine of over $100,000 and in some cases a prison term also. So the next time someone tries to offer you free cable television, please steer clear of them and get cable television or satellite television by paying for it.
