In order to remain profitable, private air charters nearly always require that passengers book a flight to full capacity before they will arrange a flight. These flights are sometimes booked by a single party or group, but they are usually booked through a third party company specializing in vacation travel.

While most private air charter companies are upstanding members of the business community, it is worth noting that the industry has earned something of a negative reputation in certain parts of the world. This is due to the poor management practices of a handful of air charter companies based in Europe that constantly canceled or reschedule private flights, often with very little notice to their passengers. Thankfully, the industry has responded by requiring charter companies to hold the necessary insurance bonds to cover any inconveniences caused to such passengers, and most of the offending companies are no longer in business.
