Myrtle Beach, SC is one of the best known beaches on the East coast, but if you are travelling to the South Carolina beach for the first time, there are several things you should take into consideration.

Myrtle Beach has a lot to offer. Not only is the beach wonderful, but there are quite a number of attractions, including Broadway at the Beach, a large shopping and entertainment center connected by, well, boardwalks. The main beach, sometimes referred to as ’the strand’, is the city of Myrtle Beach, and this is the most visited and busiest beach. You also should be aware that the closer your hotel is to the ’heart; of Myrtle Beach, which is near the intersection of 9th Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, the traffic can be much heavier, especially in those popular summer months.

Staying in a hotel just south of the center of Myrtle can sometimes be favorable, because it can be easier to drive in and out of your hotel when you want to take a break from the sand and head to one of the terrific miniature Golf plazas or head out to a meal. However, if you wanted to find the hotel that’s closest to the action, the closer to the ’heart’ of Myrtle, the more people there are to interact with.

There’s a second ’city’ to Myrtle, and that’s the city of North Myrtle Beach. While only a couple of minutes up the road from Myrtle Beach itself, North Myrtle is somewhat quieter and more laid back. There are still places to eat, shop, and of course, great beach front hotels, but if you are looking for something less populated, North Myrtle might be the option for you.
