The U.S. Department of Agriculture's newest food guide, called MyPlate, encourages consumers to make healthier food choices. In the new food guide, you are asked to eat less and avoid oversized portions. Half your plate should be filled with fruits and vegetables. At least half of your grains should be whole grains. You also should switch to fat-free or low-fat milk.
Alternative NamesMyPlate
InformationThere are 5 major food groups:
• Grains
• Vegetables
• Fruits
• Dairy
• Proteins
You should eat foods from each group every day. But how much food you should eat from each group depends on your age, gender, and how active you are.

The Food Guide Pyramid has been replaced with a Food plate, however, the original food pyramid can be seen here http://www.nalusda.gov/fnic/Fpyr/pmap.htm
The actual food pyramid was last updated in 2005. However, in 2011 it was completely replaced by the "My Plate" nutrition guide put forth by the USDA.
A key change in the MyPlate servings guide compared to the old Food Guide Pyramid is the emphasis on a visual representation of food proportions rather than a hierarchical structure. MyPlate uses a plate graphic to show the recommended distribution of food groups—fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins—encouraging a balanced diet. This shift promotes a more straightforward understanding of portion sizes and the importance of including a variety of food groups in meals.
The place plate is the basic plate of an individual table setting. It is used as a marker or guide for the silverware and other components of the place setting and functions as a service plate when the food is serviced.
The food guide pyramid contains 5 categories: grains vegetables fruits meats milk and beans Some pyramids may contain a cateogry for sweets/fats, but those are only to be used sparingly and aren't necessarily a part of the food pyramid. However, the Food and Drug Administration no longer used food guide pyramid and has replaced it with a plate icon.
The food would float, as well as the plate
For decades, parents and children have looked to the healthy food pyramid as a guide for healthy eating. Recently, however, that plan was replaced with a simple plate guide which shows which foods to eat as a part of each meal. The largest portion is fruits and vegetables, and can be any one of hundreds of types. Include also a quarter of a plate's worth of starch, such bread, potatoes or pasta. Include some meat, beans or protein, and a side of dairy to round out the meal.

Canada's Food Guide is shaped like a plate, emphasizing a balanced approach to nutrition. It features a visual representation divided into sections for different food groups, encouraging the consumption of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and protein foods. This design promotes healthy eating habits by illustrating the proportions of each food group that should be included in daily meals. The guide aims to support Canadians in making informed dietary choices for better health.
