Historical Places - Fun for Whole Family

The Harriet Beecher Stowe house is a prime example of the rich history here. The house was built in 1871 for the author of one of the best Southern stories of all time, 'Uncle Tom's Cabin.' Inside the house, one can still see Stowe's actual writing desk along with some other personal items including some art work.

There must be something in the water here in Connecticut for another of the world's best authors to have resided here. Mark Twain wrote his best works in the forms of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn while sitting in this house, now called the Mark Twain House, which was built four years after Stowe's.

The Noah Webster House is here as well. Among the homes of two of America's best writers, why shouldn't the writer of the Webster's Dictionary be among them? Here, visitors have the chance to experience what life was like in the late 1800's to early 1900's through hands-on activities.

For the kids in the family, the Children's museum is sure to be a hit. Entertaining and educational, the museum also hosts a planetarium as well as a wildlife sanctuary.
