This actual process of sending information actually works the other way around as well when receiving information (such as when you are downloading a file from the Internet or viewing a website). The server that is hosting the file sends the information to the modem. The modem then transfers the information to the router. The router translates this information into a wireless signal so that the laptop’s wireless adapter can receive it.
When computers are also logged onto the same network, they can contact each other via the WiFi network. Businesses and companies usually network their computers together to make for an easier technical workflow.
