During WW II it was quite well known that the most important element of military power was the superiority of military equipment. Soldiers with better equipment have an overwhelming advantage over those with inferior equipment. Military technology is the key to winning wars. This was seen from the outset of WW II when German tanks rolled across Europe destroying all opposition, because nobody else had tanks. So, everybody was furiously working to improve their technology during the war. The British developed the very crucial technology of radar, and the US developed the atomic bomb. The Germans developed the V-2 rocket, which was the origin of what later became intercontinental ballistic missiles as well as the space program and the Apollo moon landings. Many other technologies were either invented, or refined, by military research.
World War 2 greatly accelerated technological advancements due to the urgent demand for better weapons, communication systems, and transportation. It led to the development of nuclear power, radar systems, jet engines, and advancements in medicine and computing. The war also spurred research and development in various fields, laying the foundation for future technological innovations.
