We have yet to find out what will ultimatly happen. But if we continue to pollute it at the current rate we will see more consequences like global warming and extinction of species. The rate of change that is occurring right now due to our polluting of the earth is believed to be, by some scientists, at the same rate as the extinction of the dinosaurs. So, maybe we will be extinct in the near future unless we stop polluting the earth.

People do not intentionally pollute the environment. They do it as a result of a lack of knowledge or lack of connection to the results of their actions. They do not see that what they are doing causes harm.

All things considered the world will go on, it will not be reduced to a sterile ball of rock or vanish completely. What may change is the ecosystems that it supports.

This question is really "What will happen to the people on Earth if we keep polluting it"

Consider that in the beginning Earth had a reducing atmosphere (no oxygen) and supported life. When this changed the anaerobes lost their role as the main life form. The dinosaurs came and went - whether from disease, climate change, meteor strike or other causes. Ice ages and warm periods substantially changed the types and distribution of life.

All things considered this world and our role will substantially change in the future. Whether we can, by our actions, stop this inevitable change is doubtful. What we can do is postpone it and we can avoid hurrying it along.
