Feng shui is the Chinese practice of interior decorating. It is used to create a positive energy flow within a room. The idea of allowing an open flow of energy is thought to promote good health and good luck.
For Feng shui nursery design, there are a few things one must consider. These would include the location of the nursery, the colors used, and the arrangement of the furniture.
Step One: Find a good location for the nursery. It should not be over an empty space or next to a bathroom. Keep in mind to avoid an area where there is excessive noise such as a loud, busy street or a teenager’s room.
Step Two: Choose the color of the nursery. Feng shui suggests that the best color is white, since it suggests creativity. Soft, muted colors are also good because they help in promoting good health. And while the soothing pastels are always a good choice, bright colors should be avoided. Bright colors are considered too stimulating for a baby.
Step Three: Decide on the arrangement of the furniture. The crib should not be placed against a window. There are wall considerations to think of also. Do not place a crib against a slanted wall or a wall shared with a bathroom or a storage room, such as a closet. This is thought to affect the health of the baby.
The crib should have a clear view of the doorway so the baby can see his parents entering the room. This adds to the safety and protection a baby should feel when he sees his caregivers.
Place a rocking chair in the room to make the baby feel nurtured. This is where the baby will be held, cuddled, and fed. Good locations for a chair are the far right corner or the near left corner. These corners promote loving relationships or rule foundations, respectively.
Step Four: Consider other factors. Maintain fresh air flow through the room by having windows open, a soothing ceiling fan for air circulation, and removing diapers daily. Nursery lighting should be soft and muted, not bright and disturbing. And lastly, keeping the room clutter free creates good energy for the baby.
