It is important that a hospital bed is fully and thoroughly cleaned and completely sanitized before any patient is allowed to lay on it. It is of vital importance to fully and properly clean a hospital bed so that there is no way to allow the transmission of bacteria, since it is possible for it to live and grow on physical, solid surfaces.

  1. Make sure to thoroughly wash your hands with an antibacterial soap. Fully dry your hands and then put on a mask and a pair of disposable gloves.
  2. Disconnect the hospital bed from wall and from any and all other electronic attachments or controls.
  3. Take a cleaning cloth and spray some germicide of medical grade onto it. Make sure you dispense enough spray so that you dampen the cleaning cloth but do not put so much on there that you completely soak the cloth. Cleanse the attachments and the bed controls thoroughly. Make sure you do not directly spray the germicidal cleanser onto the electronic control parts since it might cause damage by traveling inside the devices.
  4. Take the waterproof mattress and remove it from the bed, using a can of compressed air to dislodge any debris or dust from the frame of the bed. Take the germicidal cleanser and heavily spray both the mattress and the entirety of the frame of the bed.
  5. Allow the germicidal cleaner to sit on the waterproof mattress and the hospital bed frame for a full two minutes before you begin to wipe it out.
  6. Thoroughly wipe off the germicide liquid after two minutes have gone by. Make sure to work from top to bottom until you have completely wiped down every part of the bed frame and there is no longer any trace of the germicide liquid still visible.
  7. Let the hospital bed sit in its position for another ten minutes so that you can make sure it has thoroughly dried in the corners of the frame and in those areas that are hard to reach.
  8. Replace the mattress after ten minutes have gone by, putting it back onto the bed frame. Reattach the bed to the wall and reconnected the attachments and all of the electronic controls. You should not have a bed that is fully and thoroughly sanitized and it is ready to have a fresh set of clean linens applied.
