The survival kit to be kept at the ready in the individual’s home should include a more extensive personal safety and first-aid kit, a personal shelter with a sleeping bag, a large supply of water, a camp stove with fuel, and food in the form of canned goods, freeze-dried foods, and MREs.
These items are what are generally useful and necessary for the survival of an average person in generalized situations of crisis. The individual should take these things into account and think about what other items might be necessary for his particular situation. However, it is smart for every individual to practice using every item in the survival kit in both darkness and light. When the time comes to employ these items in the field, it is probable that conditions may be imperfect and the individual will be in fear and distressed. Preparing for emergencies can drastically improve the outcomes of those trying situations.
